Sick Visits Q&A

What is a sick visit?

A sick visit is a visit to your doctor for acute health complications that arise, cause symptoms, and last for days or weeks.

While many acute illnesses go away quickly without treatment, you can get an accurate diagnosis and effective treatments during a sick visit at MUST Clinic.

During your sick visit, you should report all of your symptoms to Dr. Stallings and tell her when they began. She performs a physical examination and may recommend certain diagnostic tests to find out what’s causing your symptoms and create an appropriate treatment plan.

Which conditions require a sick visit?

Dr. Stallings diagnoses and treats a wide range of acute illnesses, injuries, and general symptoms during sick visits at MUST Clinic, including:

  • Cough, cold, and flu
  • Upper respiratory infections
  • Headaches
  • Earaches and infections
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Allergic reactions
  • Asthma attacks
  • Skin infections and rashes
  • Urinary tract infections (UTI)
  • Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
  • Cuts and lacerations
  • Bruises

You should book an appointment for a sick visit if you have lasting pain or symptoms that don’t go away with home care. If you suspect that your illness or injury is life-threatening or if it involves a lot of bleeding, you should call 911 or visit the emergency room instead.

What are my options for a sick visit?

A general sick visit happens in the mobile clinic or virtually. You will get a clinical assessment for the best setting for your visit.

Same-day appointments

Depending on your condition, Dr. Stallings may suggest a same-day appointment at MUST Clinic for faster treatment. She travels to you, so there’s no need to commute. In addition, the mobile clinic is thoroughly clean and sanitized for your safety.

Telehealth appointments

From the comfort of your own home, you can attend a telehealth appointment with Dr. Stallings using audio and video technology on your own device.

What happens during a sick visit?

Each sick visit at MUST Clinic includes a standard physical exam. Dr. Stallings asks about your symptoms and general wellness before taking your temperature and your vitals.

Then she checks your lymph nodes, nose, throat, abdomen, and other body parts. She may also use diagnostic testing like urine tests, blood tests, or strep tests for more information.

After diagnosing you, Dr. Stallings plans your treatment. Depending on the nature of your condition, your treatment might include:

  • Antibiotics
  • Antiviral medications
  • Pain relief medications
  • Corticosteroids
  • Wound care
  • Stitches
  • Home care like ice, rest, and drinking fluids

Dr. Stallings may encourage you to book a follow-up appointment to make sure your condition improves with your prescribed treatment.

If you have symptoms like a rash, sore throat, coughing, vomiting, or cuts and bruises, call MUST Clinic to request a sick visit or book online today.
